About Antiche Terre 2018 Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG

The history of Antiche Terre Venete dates back to the early 1900s with Vittorio Sancassasi cultivating vineyards and olive trees on his land. Located in the Sezano area very close to Verona, the winery is embraced by the natural wide valley surrounded by terraced vineyards.

This Amarone is produced from just the best bunches. Corvina Veronese, Corvinone and Rondinella were all collected by hand and placed on mats for 3 to 4 months to go through the process of “appassimento” or drying of the grapes.

This process concentrates the sugar content from 25% to 30% and enables other natural processes to take place inside the drying berries. The dried grapes are then turned into thick must and fermented slowly for about 15 to 20 days. The wine is then separated and placed in stainless steel tanks, where the malolactic fermentation is completed. After this process, the wine is then placed in small oak barrels to mature for 12 to 18 months.

James Suckling scored this 90 points saying "Rather sweet fruit character with crushed red berries and some oak. Medium-bodied with clean, raspberry jam flavor, turning a little more savory by the end. Pleasant, if a little sweet. Drink or hold."
