A relative newcomer to the Antinori stable this Rosso Di Montalcino 2016 is only the fifth vintage. It was created through years of experimentation with the vines to achieve a wine that is both high quality but with youthful approach ability and charm. This wine from the superb 2016 vintage continues the tradition. The Pian delle Vigne estate takes its name from a 19th century railroad station located within the confines of the property. Located to the north of the Orcia river valley and and just south of the town of Montalcino the estate has just over 150 acres of vines. The southeastly exposure and the high altitude between 400 and 650 feet above sea level allow the grapes to ripen fully but mature slowly and evenly. This ripe red, 100% Sangiovese, was aged 12 months in large oak casks before bottling.
James Suckling scored this 91 points saying "Shows good intensity on the nose and no shortage of fruitiness in the form of glazed cherries. Dried herbs and some ash, too. Full-bodied and chewy with a streak of refreshing acidity and bright red fruit."
