About Barbera D'Asti 2017 Damilano

Damilano Wine Company is one of the oldest wineries in Barolo with historic traditions. The Damilano family business dates back to 1890 when Giuseppe Borgogno, the great grandfather of the winery's current owners, began to vinify his own estate wines. Over time, the winery's production was passed down with pride in 1997 to Giacomo's grandchildren, who continue to manage the winery today producing award winning wines. This Barbera D'Asti is the result of a recent agreement which allows Damilano to cultivate 42 acres of vineyards in Casorzo, located in the hills of Monferrato in the Asti province. This area is a historic cultivation zone for Barbera. The vines are deep rooted, averaging 20 to 30 years of age offering low yields of intensely flavored fruit. The grapes were fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel to retain the the bright fruitiness, then 20% of the wine is put into new oak barrels for 6 months to add a layer of nuance and complexity to the bright, zesty character of this Barbera.

Wine Enthusiast Magazine said "Aromas of dark-skinned cherry, violet and baking spice carry over to the tangy palate along with crushed blackberry and a hint of orange zest. It has lithe tannins while bright acidity lends energy. Drink through 2021."

and James Suckling scored this 91 points saying "Big and fruity red with lots of crushed berries, lemon rind and crunchy acidity to give this focus and richness. Full body. Flavorful finish."
