The Pecchenino wine estate dates back to the end of the 1700's and has always been a family-run operation, with the holding handed down from father to son for generations. The estate holds 60 acres of vines mostly in the Dogliani commune but 3 are in Monforte which is where this single vineyard Barolo comes from. Vines here are densely planted at over 2000 per acre leading to lower yields and rich flavors. Maceration on the skins lasted for 20 days followed by 24 months in large oak casks. James Suckling scored this 96 points saying "The aromas to this are so beautiful with ripe strawberry, dried lemon and flowers. Full body, dense palate of lots of ripe fruit and a long and flavorful finish. A top wine for the vintage. Drink in 2021."
