Here's the wine that you'll blind taste your friends with. Oregon's Rogue Valley is much hotter than the Willamette Valley so, no Pinot Noir here but very good Bordeaux varietals including late ripening Cabernet Sauvignon. Located inland and shielded by mountains, the Rogue Valley has a very warm climate. But because of those same mountains vineyards can be planted on hillsides at high altitude which tempers the heat particularly at night when temperatures can be as much as 40 degrees F lower that daytime highs. This allows grapes to take on complexity and retain ideal balance, hanging on the vines late into the growing season.
All of Belle Fiore's grapes are grown on their estate vineyards in just these conditions. Planted in 2007 their hillside vineyards have matured beautifully and are turning out world class fruit. This wine is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, destemmed and fermented in small closed top tanks then aged in a combination of French and American oak barrels, 50% new.
The wine shows enticing aromas of blackberries, currents, cherries and cocoa. The palate shows cassis, chocolate and more berries with a hint of oak. Supple silky tannins offer a vibrant mouthfeel and the flavors linger on the finish.
