Here is a true rarity. A 2010 Brunello from a boutique estate and the total production was just 316 cases! Terralsole was established in 1996 and for over 20 years has produced award-winning Brunello’s by using sustainable practices and natural viticulture, including organic fertilizers. The Pian Bossolino vineyards surround the Spectacular Villa Terralsole and winery, sitting high on the southeastern slope of Montalcino, behind the famous Biondi Santi estate. Pian Bossolino has gentle, even slopes 1,200 feet above sea level and enjoys the cooler weather and excellent ventilation. This allows Sangiovese Grosso to ripen evenly and slowly, providing expressive aromas and spice in the wine.
For this 2010 grapes were picked by hand, they were then carefully selected again on the sorting table before being unloaded directly into the de-stemmer. Grapes underwent long extraction in contact with the skins with frequent pump-overs during the initial fermentation. Aging was in French Tronçais and Allier oak rotated after 12 months in small barrels to bigger barrels of 5,500L for another 18 months.
Wine Spectator scored this 94 points saying "Aromas and flavors of underbrush augment the cherry and strawberry flavors in this supple, delicate red. Balanced in a linear, tensile way, picking up mineral accents on the lingering, mouthwatering finish. Best from 2019 through 2035."
and James Suckling scored it 96 points saying "Wonderful aromas of ripe fruit such as plums, and grilled meat Then it shows fresh soil and sliced mushroom. Full body with super-silky tannins and beautiful fruit. Balanced and spicy on the finish. A beauty. Drink or hold."
