Cosimo Loia's Palazzo estate is situated on the eastern slopes of the hills outside of Montalcino. The entire property covers an area of approximately 37 acres of which about 10 are planted to vineyards at an altitude of about 1,000 feet. A portion of the wine is aged in barriques for added complexity. This is a small, 1,000 case production Brunello that always shows beautiful expression especially in the excellent 2012 vintage. International Wine Report scored this 95 points saying "The 2012 Palazzo is an outstanding showing in this vintage, as it displays its lovely old-world charm. This nuanced Brunello delivers aromatics of cherries and plums, which are woven together with walnut, spices, leather, underbrush and hints of eucalyptus. Medium to full-bodied and beautifully structured with fine, velvety tannins that glide effortlessly across your palate. However this may be most impressive for its remarkable overall balance and finesse as it heads into the silky, long finish. While this is already quite appealing at this early stage, as it constantly evolves with each minute in the glass, I also expect it to show well with a few more years of bottle age. (Best 2019-2029)"
