Here's a Bordeaux red that screams value, from the stellar 2016 vintage. Chateau Bellevue Claribes is a large estate in the Entre-Deux-Mers region of Bordeaux. Here, proprietor Bruno Fontana’s meticulous work in the vineyards ensures that his grapes ripen fully to express their maximum flavor and nuance. His vines are planted at a high density of roughly 3,000 per hectare and they average 40 years of age. He makes outstanding red Bordeaux wines in a modern, fruit-driven style that represents the finest in modern Bordeaux winemaking.
This 2016 is 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc. It shows rich, dark fruit aromas, with complex tannins; opulent, supple and seductive. It has good structure but is very well balanced.
This 2016 was awarded a Gold Medal in the Concours Des Grands Vins de France Competition and James Suckling scored this 90 points saying "A solidly structured wine for a basic Bordeaux red, but this has also been made with a good feeling for balance. Good length, thanks to the healthy tannins." On Sale!!
