About Chateau Du Parc 2015 Saint-Emilion Grand Cru
Chateau Du Parc is located in the Saint Emilion Grand Cru appellation near the Dordogne River. The picturesque hills of the world-renowned Saint-Emilion appellation produce some of the best wines in the region. Chateau Du Parc has two distinct soil profiles on its 13.6 acres. To the south, the vineyards are mostly gravel and sand based while the north consists of clay and limestone. The vineyards' terroir coupled with the perfect sun exposure produce ideal ripening conditions for Bordeaux grape varieties. The plantings are 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc with vines averaging 27 years of age.
Dr. Alain Raynaud, world-renowned winemaker/consultant oversees the winemaking process. The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted in the winery. Fermentation takes place in 500 liter barrels. The wine aged in 100% new French oak barrels for 18 months.
Decanter scored this 90 points saying "Ripe fruits and well worked tannins, with a clean lift through the finish. It offers enjoyable, unfussy drinking with complexity added by violet and raspberry touches. In 2015 it was owned by Alain Reynaud, although has since been bought by American Thomas Sullivan."
James Suckling scored this 92 poits saying "Very pretty blackberry and orange-peel aromas with floral hints. Medium to full body, firm and silky tannins and a flavorful finish. Chewy and linear. Needs a two or three years to soften the extraction. Try in 2020."
Vinous scored this 92 points saying "The 2015 du Parc comes across as more tannic and not quite as sexy as it was from barrel. Some of that may be attributable to its relatively recent bottling just a few months before this tasting. Time in the glass brings out the wine's aromatic presence and dark, potent fruit, but readers will have to be patient. Du Parc emerges from two parcels: one next to Fleur Cardinale and one next to Monbousquet. Alain Raynaud recently sold du Parc to American investor Tom Sullivan and has stayed on as the consulting winemaker."
