Here's a Bordeaux from the outstanding 2016 vintage that's already drinking beautifully. Chateau La Rose Gadis is small estate on the Rauzan plateau in the Entre Deux Mers region of Bordeaux. Bernard Lasnier took over the Château in the mid 80's coming from a long tradition of wine growing. He built new cellars with all modern equipment, temperature controlled tanks and micro-oxygenation.
The vineyards are 70 acres on the left bank of the Dordogne with southern exposure and mature vine averaging 25 years of age. Of course this is ideal terroir for Merlot and this 2016 is 90% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. Wine underwent an extended maceration of up to 28 days for good flavor extraction. This when the micro-oxygenation comes in. This technique softens the tannins and creates a silky mouthfeel even in this young Bordeaux.
The wine shows deep color and the nose brings fresh red fruits, cherries, currants and floral notes. The palate is fresh and round with good balance and more ripe fruit with hints of spice. The tannins are soft and silky caressing the palate and the red fruits linger on the finish. This wine received a Silver Medal in the Concours de Bordeaux and was awarded Gold in the Concours International de Lyon. An absolute STEAL for the price!
