About Chateau Labadie 2016 Medoc, Cru Bourgeois

Chateau Labadie is a 148 acre property situated in Begadan, one of the top villages of the Northern Medoc. It was included in the original classification of Crus Bourgeois in 1932. Since the relaunching of the Cru Bourgeois Appellation in 2009, Chateau Labadie has been one of the top contenders in the annual judging of the wines. It was the winner of the Cru Bourgeois Cup for the 2011 vintage and is one of the top 10 finalists almost every vintage.

The Chateau has been owned by the Bibey family since 1970 and is now managed by the dynamic young winemaker, Jerome Bibey. Passionate about his work, he employs only sustainable agriculture practices in the vineyard. His winemaking is traditional with great attention to detail.

The vineyards are planted with 51% Merlot, 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot with an average age of 30 years. The soil combines clay limestone and the classic Medoc gravel.

For this wine from the excellent 2016 vintage the wine underwent traditional vinification in concrete tanks and 12 months aging in new oak barrels.

91 Points and Editor's Choice 2016 Vintage - Wine Enthusiast Magazine selected this as an Editors' Choice and scored it 91 points saying "This rich wine has powerful tannins as well as attractive black-currant fruits.  It is both generous and well structured, coming from 20-year-old vines.  Drink this dense wine that's full of potential from 2023."  On Sale!!
