About Chateau Lagrezette 2015 Cru D'Exception, Cahors

A Previous Wine Enthusiast Magazine Top 100 selection, Chateau Lagrezette is an historic estate dating back 500 years. Located in France's Cahors region, which is the birthplace of the Malbec grape variety. Restored to prominence over the last three decades by Alain Dominique Perrin, the cellars and equipment are all state-of-the-art. Super Star consultant Michel Rolland oversees the winemaking to turn out award winning Malbec-based reds with true expression. This is the signature wine of the estate, 100% Malbec, sourced from 20 and 30-year-old vines on the second and third terraces above the Lot River. Soils are clay with a foundation of limestone. The wine aged 18 months in new and one-year-old French barrels and was bottled without clarification or filtering.

Forbes Magazine in a compelling article about about Perrin and Lagrezette called this wine "Vibrant with minty aromas and hints of fresh blackberries with lots of complexity with notes of leather, tar and lots of structure, giving it lift on the finish." and adding "100% Malbec from the third terrace of the property with limestone and clay vineyards from 35-year-old vines."

Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this 92 points saying "A dark color and black tannins mark this estate wine from Lagrezette. It is dense, rich with its black-plum and jammy berry flavors. Wood aging shows in the spice while the alcohol does creep through in a pepper touch. But then, this wine is all about power and richness. Drink from 2023."

The Wine Advocate scored this 91 points saying "While the second and third wines are well made and delicious drinking, it is at this level that the Lagrezette wines begin to get serious. The 2015 Chateau Lagrezette is a full-bodied 100% Malbec aged in 40% new French oak, boasting a voluminous nose of cedar, black cherries, blueberries and licorice. Mouthfilling and complex, it floods the palate with flavor, coating it in gentle tannins and finishing plush and remarkably elegant for a wine that exceeds 15% alcohol."

Jeb Dunnuck scored this 90 points saying "The classic 2015 Lagrezette is rock solid as well as a great introduction to modern wines from Cahors. Possessing a medium to full-bodied, ripe, polished, balanced style and outstanding notes of dark fruits, crushed rock, and damp earth, it will improve for another 2-3 years and last for another decade."

James Suckling scored this 90 points saying "Big, rich and ripe plums and full body here. The palate has depth and bold, fleshy ripe-plum flavors. Drink or hold."
