Family-owned since 1898, the Couderc family vineyard has grown steadily over generations, becoming their primary activity in 1985. Located high up on the plateau de Pujols, the estate overlooks the Dordogne Valley, facing the slopes of Saint Emilion. Five generations have contributed to the estate, which has been modernized over the years. Today, it is managed with passion and precision by Mr. Couderc senior, along with his son Julien, a qualified viticulturist and oenologist, who has been involved since 1997.
The south-facing vineyard is situated on rugged hillsides, characterized by calcareous clay soils with rocky terraces. The château employs rigorous quality measures, including pruning, green harvesting, and leaf thinning to control yields and achieve optimal ripeness. Grapes are meticulously sorted at harvest, and the wine is vinified in stainless steel and cement vats. A three-week maceration period results in a deeply colored wine, rich in flavor and complexity.
This wine boasts a beautiful garnet color with brick-red reflections. On the nose, it reveals powerful aromas of sour cherry, overripe red fruits, vanilla, and spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied and fleshy, supported by a well-integrated tannic structure that adds power and length. The finish offers delightful notes of strawberry jam, showcasing the wine’s depth and complexity.
Wine Enthusiast named the 2022 a Best Buy, saying, "The black-truffle aroma with berry-fruit scents show this wine's sense of balance. It has acidity and texture along with black-currant flavors. Drink from 2025."
