Six generations and nearly two centuries of work have gone into building this superb vineyard. Some serious renovation work and investment in the property began in 1974, financed by the Denechaud family and is continued today by their daughter and son in law Jereme Lafon. These two young winemakers follow the principles used by their ancestors in 1850 with the help of today’s technology. They have increased their family domaine to over 130 acres and three properties in the Cotes de Blaye and Côtes de Bourg.
The vineyard at Tertre de Viaud is just 12 acres of mature vines averaging 21 years of age in a mix of clay and gravel soils. In the outstanding 2016 vintage, the grapes ripened to perfection as is displayed in the supple blend of 82% Merlot and 18% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine was aged in tanks to allow the tannins to soften and the flavors to coalesce.
The International Wine Report scored this 91 points saying "The 2016 Château Tertre de Viaud Côtes du Bourg begins with inviting aromatics of cherries, redcurrants, tobacco, wild herbs, tobacco, spices and a mineral character that all takes shape in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, polished tannins and a mineral-laced cored which expands through the finish. This is accessible now and should start to evolve beautifully with some extended bottle age over the course of the next five years."
An incredible value and a very limited production, don't miss it while it's On Sale!
