About Chateau Tour Pibran 2011 Pauillac

Pibran is an old Médoc name. lts highly renowned vineyard covers one of the finest outcrops of Pauillac. The estate, which was originally just 24 acres, was expanded in 2001 following the purchase of the neighboring property of Château Tour Pibran to reach the current size of 41 acres of superb Garonne gravel soil. The chateau has some very good neighbors in Pauillac including Chateau Mouton Rothschild, Chateau Pontet Canet and further east, not far from Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste. The estate is now owned by AXA who owns Chateau Pichon Baron and in fact this wine was vinified at Chateau Pichon Baron by Technical Director, Jean-René Matignon and his team using grapes from the younger vines on the estate. This wine from the much overlooked 2011 vintage is a blend of roughly half Cabernet Sauvignon and half Merlot with a bit of Petit Verdot, aged in oak barrels for 12 months. It shows a classic Medoc nose with black currants, hints of tobacco and cigar box cedar. On the palate it's firm but round with good intensity, cassis, black cherry, cedar, graphite and tobacco. The tannins are supple so you can enjoy this bold Pauillac now and over the next 3-5 years. For Pauillac of this pedigree and it's a steal!!
