Domaine Pere Caboche is owned by the Boisson family. A long time ago the vineyards belonged to the Chambellan family. In 1777 Jean-Louis Boisson, married Elisabeth Chambellan and so became vine-grower in Châteauneuf du Pape. Since then, the vineyard parcels have remained in the family. The vines which are still there now are over 100 years old and produce an outstanding wine. The oldest parcel was planted in 1906. This "Vielle Vignes" or old vines bottling is a tribute and thanks to Elisabeth.
All the grapes in this wine come from the very oldest vines. Grenache leads the way; 88% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 2% Mourvèdre. The grapes are hand picked and sorted. They get a light crushing and temperature controlled fermentation with a traditional maceration of about 30 days. The wine also get traditional aging half in concrete tanks and half in large oak foudres.
Jeb Dunnuck who was the Rhone reviewer for Robert Parker's Wine Advocate for many years just scored this 94 points saying "It
offers more purity and elegance, with beautiful notes of kirsch and
black cherry fruits, garrigue, and spring flowers. This medium to
full-bodied, deep, layered effort exudes purity and finesse, has no hard
edges, and a great, great finish." Perhaps the best value 2016 Chateauneuf you can buy!!
