About Clos Vougeot 2011 Grand Cru, Domaine Faiveley

Pierre Faiveley founded the firm Domaine Faiveley in 1825. Today, the wines of Domaine Faiveley are widely recognized for being among the finest produced in Burgundy and Domaine Faiveley among the finest wine producers in the world. Grand Cru Clos de Vougeot sits on the lower slope within the village of Vosne-Romanee directly below the Grand Cru's of Le Musigny and Grands Echezeaux. One of the largest of Grand Crus; the 123+ acres are heavily fragmented, Domaine Faiveley owns 3.18 acres spread across multiple parcels. Grapes are hand harvested and sorted upon arrival at the Faiveley Domaine. Following a short maceration the must undergoes primary fermentation in a combination of stainless steel and wooden vats. The young wines are aged in 70% lightly toasted new oak barrels for 16 to 18 months. Tim Atkin MW scored this 97 points saying "Made with fruit from three parcels within the Clos, two of them in the wetter soils near the route nationale, this gives the lie to the line that the best wines only come from the upper slopes. This is aromatic and fine, with the weight and focus you expect from a top Clos de Vougeot, good freshness and red fruits succulence."
