About Clotilde Davenne 2017 Chablis Les Clos, Grand Cru
Along with the wonderful range of wines Clotilde Davenne bottles from her estate holdings, she has access to fruit from premier and grand cru vineyards in Chablis grown by vignerons who work to her exacting specification. In her own vines Clotilde is working naturally as possible, without the use of chemicals, and almost all of her production is harvested by hand. In the cellar all the wines undergo malolactic fermentation, a conscious decision by Clotilde, as she feels it brings greater complexity to the wines.”
This wine from the Grand Cru Les Clos vineyard is 100% Chardonnay from 40+ year old vines planted to a lower parcel of the Cru, adjacent to the Valmur. Hand harvested and fermented with natural yeasts in tank. Aged 12-18 months on fine lees in stainless steel.
Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this 96 points saying "A subdued note of wet chalk is the first notion on this wine's nose, which remains subtle and smooth. The palate continues this deep sense of chalkiness, pervading and illuminating it with vivid lemon. This wine is compact in body but sonorous in stature, shining with freshness and depth. Lovely now, it is certain to evolve and remain fresh. Drink now–2040."
