Domaine de Suremain 2017 Mercurey Blanc 1er Cru, En Sazenay

In the heart of Burgundy, the Domaine de Suremain is a seven-generation Burgundy family estate located in the center of the village of Mercurey at the Château du Bourgneuf. Its 44 acres is planted with Pinot Noir for the Mercurey Rouges appellations and Chardonnay for the Mercurey Blancs. The vines are worked in a rational way in order to preserve the natural environment as much as possible. Harvesting is done by hand.The Mercurey appellation is the most renowned of the Cote Chalonnaise, and one of the most important appellations of Burgundy. Mercurey is named after the messenger of the Gods of the Roman mythology, Mercury because the Romans have dedicated a temple said to be built on the site of its church. 
 
This wine is 100 % Chardonnay from the Premier Cru En Sazenay vineyard from a block east, on the top of the hillside with rather clayey soils and some blue marl. Hand with sorting of grapes is followed by destemming and a traditional vinification with 10 to 15 days in open wooden open vats depending the vintage.The wine aged 1 year in barrel ( 10 to 15 % in new).
 
Wine Enthusiast Magazine made this an Editor's Choice and scored it 91 points saying "This premier cru produces both white and red wines. Rounded and deliciously ripe, this wine is also textured to give minerality and acidity. It is still young, packed with acidity that will soften. The result will be a rich wine, textured and generous. Drink from 2021."
