Claudius Lafarge was born in 1891 in Uchizy. He was deployed during the first world war and upon his return in 1918, he took over his family farm which then composed of livestock, grains and vines. Over the years Claudius develops the family business and became the first to plant the Chardonnay grape variety in the commune of Uchizy; these plots are still in production today.
In 1952, Claudius's daughter, Marguerite, married Roger Thevenard. Roger also comes from a family of wine growers in the commune of Lugny. Together they took over the family business in Uchizy. In 1967, while they were winegrowers in a private cellar, Roger was the victim of a serious accident which ended up leaving him unable to work for a long time. To relieve themselves of a workload they decide to join the cooperative cellar of Chardonnay. Meaning the fruit from their harvest would go to the cooperative until their retirement.
In present day, the operators of the domaine are father and son Pascal and Matthieu, the son and grandson of Marguerite and Roger. At the beginning of 2021, they decided to withdraw 12 hectares from the cooperative and thus created the Domaine Thevenard, returning to the origins of the generations before them.
Winemaker's Notes
Mâcon-Villages cuvee is made from a blend of several parcels located in the commune of Farges-lès-Mâcon. They have an average age of 30-40 years. The soil is mainly clayey-limestone and clayey-silt with a predominance of silt. The assembly of these parcels gives this wine a mouth with a lot of freshness and aromas of white flowers that dominate the nose and mouth. The ageing in barrels adds volume. You will find in this wine an accessible and perfect wine to open in all occasions.
