Talk about a library hijack, here's one you won't want to miss!
This is the second release of the Easton estate-bottled Zinfandel. The fruit originates the two estate vineyards surrounding the winery. The old Dickson property planted in 1910 and the Baldinelli property that was planted in the early 1970’s. Vines are head-trained and unirrigated. The vineyard is rigorously pruned for proper cluster spacing and sun exposure to get full flavor development in the grapes.
1999 was a particularly great year in the Sierra Foothills and the Shenandoah Valley of Amador. Spring was cool, so fruit set was late and the hang time was long leading to perfect dry harvest season in early October.
The wine was aged in François Frères and Taransaud French oak barrels, 1/3 new. It has been aging gently in the winery cellars ever since.
This bold Zin received numerous accolades when it was first released including rated one of the Top Five Zins at the 2002 ZAP Tasting and First Place in the California Grapevine. Wine Enthusiast Magazine said "...it reeks of personality and terroir, with luscious black raspberry fruit and a rich espresso-and-chocolate dimension. It’s a soft, velvety, round wine of great charm. You could get addicted to this stuff."
But now after careful aging and slow development over 20 years this wine shows an explosive array of flavors and a silken texture that can only be achieved over time. Treat yourself to this rare beauty and the experience will be memorable and well worth your investment. But don't wait it's very Limited!
