About Encanto 2016 Seleccion Mencia, Bierzo
Vinos de Arganza became a family winery when it was acquired by long-time winemaker Víctor Robla from an important noble family in the area, owner of large vineyards and wineries since the 15th century in the Bierzo region of northwestern Spain. Vinos de Arganza today has a commitment to the land and tradition while incorporating innovative systems to improve the winemaking processes.
For this select wine, indigenous Mencia grapes are sourced from the best vineyards in the area, some with 100-year-old vines. Hand-selected grapes were fermented in controlled temperature tanks. The wine was aged in French and American oak barrels for 22 months.
Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this 91 points saying "Spicy, fully oaked black-fruit aromas are a bit edgy, while this Mencía feels crisp, smacking and racy. Blackberry and cassis flavors finish with firm tannins and lively acidity that lend balance to this full-bodied red."
