About Fattoria Poggiopiano 2007 Chianti Classico, La Tradizione
Fattoria Poggiopiano was started by Stefano and Alessandro Bartoli, local Tuscan residents who had a passion to produce wine and purchased the tiny neglected property in 1992. Poggiopiano is located in San Casciano Val di Pesa, a picturesque, hilly area approximately 40 minutes south of Florence and just North of the renowned vineyards of Greve in Chianti. Beginning in 1993 the 14 and a half acres of vineyards at Poggiopiano were re-developed and a new, modern cellar was built. First vintages were released in 1995 and the estate became immediately recognized for quality and often a scarcity of available bottles due to such small production. In the late 1990s, Poggiopiano hired winemaker Attilio Pagli, who makes (or co-makes) wine for such championed estates as Valdicava, Fattoria Le Terrazze, Speri and San Giusto a Rentennano. Poggiopiano has won the prestigious Tre Bicchieri award seven times.
La Tradizione 2007 is a single vineyard and all of the current releases of this wine are all Gran Selezione. This 2007 was produced before that most prestigious designation was created. 95% Sangiovese, 5% Colorino, aged 24 months in French Oak. This wine has been aging gently and has reached a peak of drinkability.
Antonio Galloni, tasting this on release said "The 2007 Chianti Classico La Tradizione is a big, full-bodied wine graced with exquisite depth in its dark, sensual fruit. Elements of richness and elegance are beautifully balanced in this striking Chianti. The wine continues to grow in the glass, showing endless layers of flavor and dimension. This is a decidedly big style, but everything is in the right place. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2022." Very Limited!
