About Ferrari-Carano 2016 Pinot Noir, Anderson Valley

Ferrari-Carano purchased a unique vineyard property planted to Pinot Noir grapes on Mendocino Ridge above Anderson Valley. The vineyard, surrounded by towering redwoods and lush forest, sits high above the fog line at over 1,500-foot elevation on the cool, steep slopes of Mendocino Ridge. This new, delicious Ferrari-Carano Pinot Noir is sourced from there. The grapes were hand harvested and hand sorted in the field. The grapes are cold soaked for two to three days and fermented in small bins and stainless steel open-top fermentors. Various yeast strains are introduced to add complexity. The wine has aged for 10 months in 35% new French oak barrels before bottling.

Tasting Panel Magazine scored this 94 points saying "Just-picked strawberries in tilled soil greet the nose in this expressive and sumptuous wine. Milk chocolate swathes the palate, further enhanced by cranberries and deep notes of crushed blueberries. The balance between acid and a buoyant mouthfeel make this red a sensual experience. Spice and sassafras lead to a long finish, where graphite makes an appearance."

Wine Enthusiast Magazine made this an Editors' Choice and scored it 93 points saying "Gorgeous in aroma and satisfying in flavor, this full-bodied wine shows great fruit concentration. Layers of dark berries and spice fill out the firm structure and give it depth."
