Siena was one of the first premium Sangiovese blends made in California. Ferrari-Carano has produced this wine with consistently superb results year after year and this 2016 marks their 26th bottling! A reflection of their Italian heritage Siena is a wine that has been continually honed over the years to find the perfect formula. This vintage, along with Sangiovese, includes Malbec, Petite Sirah and some Cabernet Sauvignon. Grapes are sourced from estate vineyards in Dry Creek Valley, Alexander Valley and Russian River Valley, as well as from other premium vineyards in Sonoma. The wine is aged in 24% new French and Eastern European oak and 76% older oak for a total of 12 months. The style emphasizes the bright cherry fruit that Sangiovese is known for.
This was awarded a Silver Medal in the 2020 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. Wine Enethusiast Magazine said "Made from a majority of Sangiovese and Malbec with smaller amounts of Petite Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon and other varieties, this red is sanguine in red currant, cranberry and iron, with an accent of toasted, charred oak. Creamy texture highlights its rich journey in vanilla cola."
