Here's a vibrant Italian red from Piedmont that's also an incredible value. Franco Amoroso is a small producer of excellent quality wines. After a long distinguished career in the wholesale wine business in Piemonte, Franco's dream was realized of establishing a family winery in Mombarazzo in the heart of the growing region for Piemonte's famous DOC and DOCG wines. The vineyards and winery produce wines in according to Franco's tradition and meticulous standards for quality. Grapes for this wine were sourced from his vineyards as well as other top vineyards in the region and was fermented and aged in the traditional style.
Aged 3 years in oak barrels (25HL) and one year in bottle. Dry, velvety and austere with a nose of faded rose and violet. Dark fruit, spice and licorice notes and are layered with minerality and ripe tannins in the rich and textured palate.
James Suckling scored this 91 points saying "This shows darker fruit than many Barbarescos: dried violets, elderberries and dried nutmeg. The medium-to full-bodied palate is round and quite expansive, supporting rows of supple tannins and pretty, dark fruit. Drink now or hold."
