Rare single vineyard bottling from a historic site. When Freemark Abbey released the 1970 Bosche Vineyard Cab it was one of Califorinia's the first single vineyard bottlings. Located west of Hwy. 29, on the famed Rutherford Bench, Freemark Abbey's Bosché Vineyard has very deep gravelly soils. A seasonal creek crosses the vineyard which causes the water table to be high in the spring, allowing the vineyard to be dry-farmed throughout the majority of the season providing water and nutrients for new shoot growth. As veraison approaches, the water table drops, stressing the vines and intensifying the dark velvety fruit flavors. This 2014 is 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Merlot aged 28 months in French oak barrels (64% new).
The Wine Advocate scored this 96+ points saying "Very deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Bosche Vineyard, composed of 94.1% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5.9% Merlot, has an expressive, savory nose of black olives, roasted nuts and sandalwood with a core of cassis, blackberry pie and unsmoked cigars. Medium to full-bodied and laden with black fruits, earth and baking spice notions, it has a firm structure of grainy tannins and lovely freshness, finishing long. Forget it for 2-4 years and drink it over the next 25+."
