Award winning Freemark Abbey Winemaker Ted Edwards has several prime Napa Valley vineyards from which to draw inspiration. Bosche Vineyard, located west of Hwy. 29, on the famed Rutherford Bench, the Bosche vineyard has very deep gravelly soils and grapes with dark velvety fruit flavors. Sycamore Vineyard, located about 1.2 miles south of Bosche, right up against the Mayacamas Range, this vineyard has a rich clay loam and produces small berries reminiscent of mountain fruit berries, with intense extract of color and flavor. And Red Barn Ranch Vineyard, located in the heart of the Rutherford appellation, this vineyard is a mosaic of creek beds. Here the fruit is soft, with cherry, plum, and rhubarb notes. With all of this to work with it's no wonder that this Rutherford Cabernet is always outstanding!
The 2015 scored 95 points from the Wine Advocate. This 2016 is 78.8% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15.4% Petit Verdot, 3.6% Merlot and 2.2% Cabernet Franc. The grapes fermented in stainless steel with 10-28 days of skin contact and the aged in 58% new French oak barrels. This wine is opaque with dark ruby color. The aroma is very rich with blackberry and dark currant fruit. With great depth of fruit, the oak adds a spicy edge, yielding nuances of aromatic cedar, cinnamon, clove, cigar box, black pepper and dark chocolate coco powder. This is a very big wine, the body is very full, balanced with black fruit flavors, coupled with a good acidity and polished tannins.
We expect another big score but before that happens we have a tremendous sale price that you won't want to miss!!
