About Frescobaldi Tenuta Perano 2017 Chianti Classico

Frescobaldi's property in Chianti Classico Tenuta Perano is located on the hills of Gaiole in Chianti with vineyards 1500 feet above sea level. The south, southwestern exposure and the amphitheater-shaped layout magnifies the exposure to the sun and concentrates the heat from it. The combination of elevation, exposure, and the shape and slope of the vineyards offer an extraordinarily unique quality setting that results in brilliant purple wines possessed of intensely fruity aromas and a great tannic structure rife with elegance.

Once harvested by hand, the grapes were vinified in stainless steel vats at controlled temperature. Maceration on the skins with frequent pumping over allowed for perfect extraction of the polyphenolic substances, providing just the right color intensity and typical structure. The wine was then partially aged in wood casks, delicately enriching the bouquet. The wine was released after an additional ageing period in the bottle.

James Suckling scored this 93 points saying “A rich, layered red with blackberry, mushroom and walnut aromas and flavors. It’s full-bodied, round and juicy with a long, flavorful finish.”

The Wine Advocate scored this 92+ points saying “The Frescobaldi 2017 Chianti Classico Tenuta Perano is an elegant and graceful wine with a subtle squeeze of extra density and richness that reminds me of the heat and dry conditions of this vintage. The wine presents classic lines with tart cherry and forest berry aromas backed by crushed rock and limestone. You also get fresh hints of rosemary and crushed violets. You get a lot of drinking pleasure from this fresh and vivid entry-level Sangiovese.”

Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this 90 points saying “This has an initially subdued nose that eventually reveals whiffs of ripe black skinned fruit, star anise and new leather. On the medium-bodied palate, fine-grained, drying tannins accompany dried cherry, orange zest and espresso.”
