Gerard Bertrand acquired the Cigalus estate in 1995. In 2002, Bertrand began experimenting with the practice of biodynamics on a few hectares. The conversion of the whole estate was progressive, as prudent as it was inevitable. And Cigalus was Demeter certified Biodynamic in 2010.

In the hollow of the Corbières, the Domaine de Cigalus benefits from the refreshing contributions of this unique environment. The soils sit on a layer of sandstone and are composed of good draining sand, which complements the clay, which retains the water from the numerous underground springs. This richness, in a semi-arid climate, must be controlled by short pruning and constant attention to the vigour of the vineyard. But this terroir is ideal for growing Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Carignan.

Each of those varietals is in the blend of this 2017 and wine aged in a carefully selected combination of French oak barrels. The Wine Advocate scored this 91 points saying "A blend of seven varieties but dominated by Bordeaux varieties, the 2017 IGP Aude Hauterive Cigalus features scents of mint and cassis on the nose. It's full-bodied and dark, very much a Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend. Firmly structured, it's not terribly pleasing or generous right now but ideally needs a few years in a cool cellar."
