About Gevrey-Chambertin 2011 Maison Folly
Graham Gardner has worked in Burgundy for the past 30 years and is one of the most respected and reputable Burgundy traders. The estates he works with often sell part of their production to big name Negociants who then blend these wines with many others to make their own. The idea behind Maison Folly, however, is a bit different -- they buy the unblended finished wines from these top estates (sometimes in bottles or in barrels) and sell them directly in New York via Verity Wine Partners under the Folly label, hence offering unmatched everyday value for Burgundy consumers. From selected vineyards on either side of the village and mid-slope, the vines are over sixty years old, allowing for a low yield of concentrated juice. The vineyards and lime-stone and clay with marl, giving the mineral quality that helps the wine gather complexity with maturity. Agriculture Raisonée (sustainable farming) is practiced in the vineyards - so left alone as far as possible to grow naturally. Hand harvested and fermented in steel, with a small amount of whole bunches. The wine rested on its “fine lees” for 14 months in oak barrels, of which 20% were new. Awesome Value!
