Another Killer Cab from Grand Napa Vineyards, located in the heart of Rutherford, near the foot of Mt. St. John in the Mayacamas mountain range. Their mission is to create outstanding wines from Napa Valley. They grow Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc and implement artisan techniques to produce distinctive wines. Winemaker, Dwight Bonewell, sources the fruit from the best vineyards in Napa Valley, including some of its other most prestigious sub-appellations. For this wine the fruit was sourced from not only Rutherford but also Yountville and St. Helena. Fermentation is in open-top 1 ton fermenters with maceration lasting 3 weeks for good, deep extraction. The wine was aged a full two years in 60% new Seguin Moreau French oak barrels and 40% neutral (4+ years old) French oak barrels adding complexity, backbone and nuance.
The Wine Advocate scored this 93+ and said "Blended of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Petit Verdot, the deep garnet-black colored 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley comes charging out of the gate with gregarious scents of black raspberries, red and black currants and blackberry compote with suggestions of cracked black pepper, pencil shavings and tar. Medium to full-bodied with fantastic intensity and depth, it has a firm, grainy frame and long earthy finish."
