About Heitz 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon, Trailside Vyd., Napa Valley

Here's a rare vintage Napa Cab that's been aging to perfection in the winery's cellar! The intensely flavorful wines from Rutherford's Trailside Vineyard have been part of the Heitz range since 1989. The vineyard is flanked by the Silverado Trail on one side and Conn Creek on the other and is certified organic. This is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 9 months in neutral oak tanks and 3 years in 100% new French Limousin oak barrels, followed by 2 years in bottle.

This single vineyard Heitz Cellars Cab is always a great success and particularly so in the outstanding 2013 vintage where it has received rave reviews.

Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored it 95 points saying "From a certified-organic site in Rutherford and 100% varietal, this wine has benefitted from time in the bottle, dazzling in soft silky red fruit and jolts of nutmeg and dust. Beautifully layered, structured and brightly vibrant, it has impressive coaxings of cigar, cedar and a rich hint of wild vanilla."

James Suckling scored it 94 and said "Some darker and more powerful style to this single vineyard cab that delivers abundant blackcurrant and blueberry aromas and flavors. The tannins are long and fine, really even and commanding. Beautiful balance, too. Drink or hold."

and Wine Spectator scored it 93 points saying "This throws off some seriously ripe and alluring fruit, with raspberry, blackberry and cherry coulis notes streaming through, framed tightly by a mouthwatering anise note and ending with a bolt of graphite. Impressive focus and drive throughout. Best from 2020 through 2035."
