Heitz Vineyards has a well-earned reputation for producing high quality, distinctive Napa Valley wines, particularly Cabernets. The style is always full-bodied, well-extracted with immense structure. One of the unique aspects to their production is the length of time that they age their Cabs before release. This Cab is barrel aged for full three years; two years in French oak barriques and a year in large American oak tanks before bottling. This allows the tannins to soften and the flavors to coalesce, resulting in a wine that shows its full expression on release. Here is their latest release, 2014, another excellent vintage for Napa Cab. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon sourced entirely from estate vineyards, brings rich, intense flavors and a beautiful structure that promises to keep this killer Cab going for many years to come.
Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this 92 points saying "Representing one of the finest values in Napa Cabernet, this 100% varietal wine is bright and plush, layered in anise and cassis liqueur. A fresh high-toned midpalate evolves to show a softly round ending as a classic style of structure and elegance play out."
James Suckling scored it 93 points saying "Attractive red berries and licorice in this medium-bodied cabernet. There’s handy freshness and detailed red plums and black currants and a smooth, fine and juicy feel to the finish. Drink or hold."
