Here's a stunning Napa Cab that's been aging to perfection in the winery's cellar! The intensely flavorful wines from Rutherford's Trailside Vineyard have been part of the Heitz range since 1989. The vineyard is flanked by the Silverado Trail on one side and Conn Creek on the other and is certified organic. This is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 9 months in neutral oak tanks and 3 years in 100% new French Limousin oak barrels, followed by 2 years in bottle.
This single vineyard Heitz Cellars Cab is always a great success and particularly so in the outstanding 2014 vintage where it has received rave reviews. Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored it 96 points saying "From a Rutherford site, this 100% varietal, estate wine is aged similarly to the producer’s fine Martha’s Vineyard bottling, given plenty of time in new and neutral oak as well as in bottle. Beguiling spice and a warmth of red fruit provide tangy freshness around lengthy layers of salty oak, iron and baked plum."
Decanter Magazine scored it 97 points saying "Trailside Vineyard has been a Rutherford estate site for Heitz Cellar since 1984, and produces one of the most undersung Cabernets in the Napa Valley. Martha’s Vineyard may garner more attention, but the Trailside bottling is every bit its equal in terms of complexity. Softer and more nuanced than the rustic Martha's, the nose and texture here are dictionary definitions for Rutherford: dusty, plush and long. The finish is astounding in its power and relative weightlessness. A superb wine!"
