About Heitz 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon, Trailside Vyd., Napa Valley
Here's a stunning Napa Cab that's been aging to perfection in the winery's cellar! The intensely flavorful wines from Rutherford's Trailside Vineyard have been part of the Heitz range since 1989. The vineyard is flanked by the Silverado Trail on one side and Conn Creek on the other and is certified organic. This is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for three years in a combination of new and old French oak barrels from Mercier, Bordelais and Marchive, followed by 2 years in bottle.
This single-vineyard Heitz Cellars Cab is always a great success and particularly so in the outstanding 2015 vintage where it has received rave reviews. James Suckling scored this 95 points saying "A rich and layered red with a full body and soft, round tannins. Lovely bay leaf and rose petal undertones. Chocolate and coffee. Denser palate. Plenty of lengths, but framed nicely. So drinkable but better with age. One for the cellar. Drink or hold."
Wine Spectator scored this 93 points saying "Features a perfumed profile, with singed vanilla and red tea notes flashing first, followed by a supple-edged core of red currant, plum and cherry preserve flavors. Subtle mineral and sage elements underscore the finish, which shows a fine-grained texture and good persistence. A refined 2015 that should age well. Best from 2021 through 2035."
