About Hess Collection 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon, Mt. Veeder, Napa Valley

Mount Veeder is distinguished among Napa's mountain districts for having the highest elevation, coolest growing season and geologically diverse soils. Hess Collection Mount Veeder Cab is an expression of the unique mountain climate it comes from, sourced entirely from Hess' Veeder Hills Vineyard. The elevation of this vineyard ranges from 600-1,120 feet. This 2014 Cab is a blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon and 16% Malbec and 3% Petit Verdot aged in 80% new French oak barrels for 22 months.

Vinous scored this 92 points saying "A powerful, dense wine, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon (Mount Veeder) packs plenty of mountain structure and complexity to play off the rich, dense fruit. Espresso, mocha, black cherry, new leather and spice add myriad shades of nuance to a wine endowed with real character."

and Wine Enthusiast Magazine also scored it 92 saying "Juicy black cherry and grippy oak are the stars of the show in this delicious red wine, softened by the addition of 16% Malbec. Elongated tannins support the leathery texture as highlights of cedar and sage play on."

and the Wine Advocate scored this 94 points saying "Composed of 81% Cabernet, 16% Malbec and a dollop a Petit Verdot, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Mt. Veeder has a very deep purple-black color and nose of crushed blackcurrants, blackberries and plums with hints of cedar chest, dried Provence herbs, rose petals and menthol with a hint of rare beef. Full-bodied, concentrated and vibrant in the mouth, it has tons of energy framed by grainy tannins and a lively backbone, finishing long and earthy."
