At San Felice, respect for the tradition of Chianti is united with avant-garde viticultural research and experimentation, carried out on 43 acres of vineyards, in conjunction with the Department of Horticulture of the University of Florence. The most extraordinary part of this is the "Bank of Vines", which consists of a five acre vineyards called the Vitiarium where approximately 278 lesser-known Tuscan vines are being cultivated. The fermentation of the grapes takes place in a modern vat-room equipped with stainless-steel tanks and more than 60 Slavonian oak casks made by master coopers. Il Grigio Gran Selezione is the result of painstaking selection of their best Sangiovese. Cultivated in five zones of excellence, combined with a 20% complement made up of five exceptional native varieties brought back to prominence in the San Felice Vitiarium: Abrusco, Pugnitello, Malvasia Nera, Ciliegiolo and Mazzese. This is a past #1 Wine of the Year in Wine Enthusiast Magazine. They scored this 2013 95 points and said "Smooth and delicious, this boasts enticing scents of violet, berry, leather, tilled soil and aromatic herb. The radiant, elegant palate offers ripe red cherry, crushed raspberry, white pepper and licorice, while a note of pipe tobacco closes the finish. Polished tannins and bright acidity provide balance and structure. Drink 2018-2025."
