Donnachiara's vineyards in Campania are family owned and have been for five generations but the brand new, very modern winery was just established in 2005. The vineyard where the grapes are sourced for this Irpinia has been in the family for five generations. 100% Aglianico, the vines average 30 years of age. Celebrated Enologist Ricardo Coltarella is now in charge of the winemaking. Aging is in French oak barriques for 6 months with a mix of new and second use barrels. Wine Spectator selected this for their Top 100 Wines of 2017. They scored it 90 points saying "This is elegant and well-meshed, with fine tannins and a fragrant skein of ground spice layered with flavors of baked black currant, herbes de Provence, smoke and fig cake. The fresh finish is chewy and lingering. Drink now through 2022."
