About Joel Gott 2015 Palisades Red Blend, California

Joel Gott Wines was born with the 1996 release of its Amador County Zinfandel, a joint effort with his wife, Sarah Gott, which earned stellar reviews from Robert Parker and Wine Spectator. Following this initial success, Joel Gott Wines released a Sauvignon Blanc in 1998, followed by a Cabernet Sauvignon and other California wines. In 2009, Joel Gott Wines partnered with Trinchero Family Estates. The relationship enables Joel Gott and his team to focus on sourcing the best fruit to produce high quality wines, while Trinchero helps Joel execute his vision for sales, distribution and marketing.

For this red from the outstanding 2015 vintage they blended grapes from three different appellations in California. Fruit from Lake County adds structured tannins and minerality. The cooler, windy Monterey appellation produces smaller, more concentrated fruit clusters. Rounding out the blend, fruit from Lodi is characterized by rich flavors and soft texture.

After fermentation, the wine was aged in 1 and 2-year-old American oak to complement the flavors and tannins of the wine and soften the mid-palate. The final blend is 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, 2% Petite Sirah, 2% Malbec and 1% Cabernet Franc.

This wine shows aromas of raspberry, plum, black currant, leather, toasted vanilla and anise. On the palate, bright red fruit flavors lead to smooth tannins and subtle acidity on the mid-palate with the light sweetness of vanilla on the long, delicate finish.
