Perhaps the most celebrated producer in Germany's esteemed Mosel Valley, Johann Joseph Prum produces outstanding single vineyard Rieslings critics praise and collectors can't get enough of. This wine from the famed Wehlener Sonnenuhr vineyard is a Spatelese which translates to "Late Picked". This means the grapes had a chance to fully ripen and take on a rich complexity. The wine is mildly sweet and laden with minerality.
Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored thi 94 points and made it and Editors' Choice. They said "The nose is subtle here, suggesting delicate whiffs of grapefruit and pollen, but the palate is buoyant, bursting with grapefruit and pineapple. It's sunny and sweet yet has a steely balance and tingling acidic backbone. Delicious already, it's concentrated enough to improve well through 2027."
The Wine Spectator scored this 95 points and said "Give this some air if you must drink it now, but better to wait for a decade or so. Seductive guava and mango flavors are offset by vivifying citrusy acidity, creating a firm frame on which glazed apricot and star anise notes emerge. Powerful yet elegant, this is built for the cellar. Best from 2022 through 2039."
