About Jordan 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley

Jordan Vineyards almost single-handedly put Alexander Valley on the map. Since the release of their first wine, the 1976 Cabernet Sauvignon, they've been a standard bearer for what this warm-climate corner of Sonoma County can produce. And year after year Jordan's Cabernets continue to deliver bold, ripe flavors, beautifully polished with ideal balance for aging. For this 2014, more than 60 vineyard blocks from Jordan Estate and 12 family growers were sourced (89% Alexander Valley, 7% Mendocino County, 4% Dry Creek Valley). The grape lots are kept separate by vineyard. Each gets 17 days extended maceration and every lot is reevaluated after primary fermentation. Malolactic fermentation is completed in upright oak casks before assemblage to create the "barrel blend." Five French and three American barrel coopers selected based on blind tastings and vintage flavor profile; primarily medium toast. The wines are aged in 94% French and 6% American oak barrels for 12 months; 45% new oak consisted of 100% French. Post malolactic fermentation, individual lots are blind tasted and ranked, then assembled into the "barrel blend." After one year in barrels, the "barrel blend" is reassessed and only top lots are combined for the final master blend. This 2014 is 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13.7% Merlot, 5.8% Petit Verdot, 1.2% Malbec and 0.3% Cabernet Franc.

Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this 90 points saying "Tart and tangy in underlying acidity, this elegant red offers a mix of dried herb, tobacco leaf and red currant, showing subdued ripeness within a context of elongated, polished tannin and well-integrated oak."

Tasting Panel Magazine scored it 93 points saying "A smooth and tangy Bordeaux style wine with lively plum and berry fruit; medium-bodied and elegant; another winner in a long line from this acclaimed winery. 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13.7% Merlot, 5.8% Petit Verdot, 1.2% Malbec, and 0.3% Cabernet Franc."

and Wine Review Online just scored it 94 points saying "Jordan’s Cabernet has for years been a flagship of the appellation. This vintage gets a little more new French oak than usual, but that doesn’t pose any problems and might just extend the life of the wine a touch. The blackberry and currant fruit is enhanced by the oak spice and a touch of mint that brightens everything without grabbing attention. A long finish rounds things out, and some bottle age will turn this into another cellar trophy. Bravo! "
