Named for his daughter, whom he worked with to make the wine and from a vineyard that Nick Goldschmidt has been farming since 1989, this 2015 Katherine Goldschmidt is excellent. This Alexander Valley vineyard is a unique plot growing old vine Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. In 2015, another outstanding vintage in Alexander Valley, it brought low-yield Cabernet grapes with intense flavor and ideal balance. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine was aged 18 months in 20% new oak, a combination of French, American and Hungarian. The 2013 received a 94 point rating from the Press Democrat North Coast Wine Challenge and 2015 is yet another incredible vintage. It shows ripe Cabernet fruit, with cassis and black cherry nuances and beautifully polished tannins that bring a seamless, supple quality that lingers on the finish. This is a wine that drinks beautifully right now but will also age gently over the next 2-4 years. This is a real bargain for single vineyard Alexander Valley Cab.
