The Halls acquired the historic St. Helena Bergfeld Winery in 2003 with a rich history spanning 150 years. Today Hall's estate vineyards encompass more than 500 acres of classic Bordeaux varietals. Hall Wines continue to set new heights in Napa Valley winemaking vintage after vintage. This 2016 Kathryn Hall Cabernet Sauvignon is the flagship of their offerings. Sourced primarily from their estate Sacrashe vineyard, 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot aged 26 months is 80% new French oak barrels.
Big scores all around for this including Jeb Dunnuck who scored the Barrel Sample 94-96 and said "The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Kathryn Hall is also gorgeous. Currants, cassis, spring flowers, and hints of underbrush all emerge from this full-bodied, opulent and seamless barrel sample that has richness with no weight, fine tannin, and stunning purity of fruit. It much more approachable than the 2015 but should age gracefully as well."
and the Wine Advocate scored this 97 points saying "Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Kathryn Hall sashays out of the glass with beguiling notions of warm black and red currants, fresh blackberries, black raspberries and boysenberries with touches of rose hip tea, forest floor, pencil shavings and violets. Full-bodied with a taut foundation of firm, fine-grained tannins and bags of freshness, it has layer upon layer of perfumed black and red fruits, finishing long and fragrant."
