Screaming Eagle winemaker's Leviathan Cab Blend in Magnum

  • Sreaming Eagle Winemaker
  • Magnum Format
  • 4 Vineyard Sites
  • 'approachable now and built to cellar for 10-plus years'

Leviathan is a red blend from legendary winemaker Andy Erickson, the former winemaker for Screaming Eagle. With Leviathan, Andy has the freedom to pursue his passion of crafting one red blend wine sourced from the best regions in California. Every year he coaxes the very best from each of the chosen varietals, regions and vineyards to create one distinct and exceptional red blend. This is winemaking without restrictions.

The 2021 Leviathan reveals distinct aromas of blackberry bramble, black cherry, and chaparral. Savory spices and star anise meld with mineral, graphite, bay, and laurel reflective of our rocky Northern California terrain. With finely structured tannins, this wine is silky and elegant-yet persistent. It is approachable now and built to cellar for 10-plus years.

The 2021 proprietary blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, 10%  Petite Sirah, 6% Syrah, 6% Petite Verdot, and 3% Cabernet Franc highlight some of my favorite growing regions in Northern California, including Red Hills, Coombsville, and Moon Mountain. It spends 15 months in 100% French Oak 25% new and the rest in 2-3 year old barrels.

A selection of notable vineyards, predominantly from mountainside sites with volcanic-based soils, including:

Obsidian Ridge Vineyard (Red Hills AVA) Wild Diamond Vineyard (Red Hills AVA) Rancho Salina Vineyard (Moon Mountain AVA) and Faust Vineyard (Coombsville AVA)
