Marchesi de' Frescobaldi is one of Italy's most historic wine producers, dating to the 1300s. It is also one of the most significant producers in Italy, with nine different estates—and roughly 2,500 acres—in Tuscany.
This wine from the outstanding 2015 vintage, is produced by the Frescobaldi family as a special private reserve. It originates from the oldest vines of Castello Nipozzano estate, which have deep roots and produce low yields of concentrated grapes. This highly complex, harmonious wine is matured for 24 months in oak barrels in accordance with the ancient Tuscan tradition. Sangiovese is complemented with native varieties Malvasia Nera, Colorino and Canaiolo.
The Wine Advocate scored this 93 points saying "A mid-weight Tuscan red with a fresh approach, the 2015 Chianti Rufina Riserva Nipozzano Vecchie Viti trots out lots of dark blackberry and cherry. Enjoy the Sangiovese earthiness and its notes of rose hip and pressed flower. With fruit sourced from old vines, this expression delivers an extra level of density, thickness and extraction. The sunny and warm conditions of the vintage have added to the volume and fleshy texture of the mouthfeel."
