Paul Maroon started his small winery in Napa Valley with the purchase of a beautiful estate vineyard near Howell Mountain, located in the new Coombsville AVA. We first heard about them through the excellent Crauford Cabernets but he was already known for the quality of his Cabernet fruit and was selling it to Joseph Phelps for inclusion in their flagship Insignia wine. Now the grapes from this outstanding vineyard go into this Reserve Cab, and it clearly shows the quality and pedigree. In the excellent 2012 vintage the grapes ripened to perfection, taking on true depth of flavor and complexity. After a slow fermentation the wine aged for 30 months in French oak barrels. This wine scored 92 points from the Beverage Testing Institute. They said "Ruby color. Aromas of olive, dried berries, forest floor, and honeycomb with a satiny, bright, dryish medium body and a graceful, intricate, medium-long cassis, nuts, and cocoa finish with well-integrated, fine tannins. A rich, earthy, and layered Cabernet with great table appeal." Grab this amazing Napa Cab now, while it's On Sale!
