Paul Maroon started his small winery in Napa Valley with the purchase of a beautiful estate vineyard near Howell Mountain, located in the new Coombsville AVA. We first heard about them through the excellent Crauford Cabernets but he was already known for the quality of his Cabernet fruit and was selling it to Joseph Phelps for inclusion in their flagship Insignia wine. Now the grapes from this outstanding vineyard go into this Reserve Cab, and it clearly shows the quality and pedigree. In the outstanding 2013 vintage, which Parker scored an epic 98 points overall, the grapes ripened to perfection, taking on true depth of flavor and complexity. After a slow fermentation the wine aged for 30 months in French oak barrels. This wine scored 93 points from the Beverage Testing Institute. They said "Nearly opaque violet color. Aromas and flavors of baked berries and herbs, toasted nuts and meringue, and cornichon with a satiny, vibrant, dry-yet-fruity body and a warming, complex, long cassis chutney, sweet and peppery spices, and oak and earth finish with fine, silky tannins and moderate oak. A lush, concentrated cabernet for pleasure now or many years hence." Grab this stunning single vineyard Napa Cab now, while it's On Sale!
