The celebrated Clive Coates MW calls Domaine de Suremain one of the best growers in Mercurey whose wines are some of the best values for the money in Burgundy. In the heart of the village of Mercurey in the Cte Chalonnaise is the Domaine de Suremain's 43 acre estate. Family winegrowers for 7 generations, their vineyard plots are situated on the hillsides facing to the south and east, in the heart of the appellation. 75% of their holdings are Premier Cru including the vineyard where this wine is sourced, the Clos L'Eveque. Located on an eastern slope on clay and limestone soils.
The Harvest is done by hand. Vinification is carried out individually for each cru in open barrels with a complete destemming. The wine aged in oak barrels, 15 % new for 18 months.
Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this 90 points saying "This young wine has attractive red-cherry and berry flavors as well as balanced acidity. A line of fresh fruitiness cuts through the tannins and wood-aging flavors. It needs time to age; drink from 2021."
