Mira Winery is a name inspired by the Latin root of “miracle” and Greek for “destiny.” Winemaker Gustavo A. Gonzalez’s long-held approach to winemaking is one of intention, precision and artistry. Using only sustainably farmed, 100% Napa Valley fruit, Gustavo has gained a well-earned reputation around the world: his wines consistently receive high marks. In fact, one of Gustavo’s wines was described as “perhaps the greatest Tuscan red ever” and was awarded a perfect 100 point rating.
For over 20 years Mira winemaker Gustavo A. Gonzalez has been practicing his craft in the Napa Valley (Mondavi Winemaker) and around the world to critical acclaim. Gustavo has worked in California, Italy, France, Argentina and Brazil.
As for the Hyde Vineyard, it is the creation of Larry Hyde who left Joseph Phelps in order to transform the soils of this Carneros location to create what is now this phenomenal single vineyard. It lured in Aubert de Villaine, Co-Director of Domaine de la Romanee Conti (yes, THAT DRC!!) for his venture with Larry in creating Hyde de Villaine. So, the moral of the story is that this Hyde Vineyard was the choice vineyard of the most iconic Burgundy producer to craft his Pinot here in California, how's that for pedigree!!
Winemaker's Notes
“Interesting to note on this vintage of our Hyde Pinot we used a new clone in addition to the Calera clone this time incorporating the Beba clone. This Pinot opens with a super balanced nose and the palate welcomingly is one and the same. Smoky and nutty with hints of tobacco tea and a backsplash of oak. Silky finish making this a decadent and certain crowd pleasing Pinot.”
James Suckling scored this 92 points saying, "This is fresh and vibrant with notes of crushed ripe red berries, cherry chocolate, spicy herbs and plum skins. Medium-bodied, textured and polished with fine tannins and a sleek, chocolaty finish. Drink now."
